The Community Visitors Scheme (CVS) based at Claremont Baptist Church is a long-standing, much-loved community program that engages and supports relationships between young and old. It works in aged-care facilities in the Western Suburbs in collaboration with Occupational Therapists and Activities Coordinators. Residents are identified if they are at risk of isolation or loneliness due to immobility, physical impairment or if they have no family members visiting them.
Volunteers receive training and support from the CVS Coordinator. They spend time at least fortnightly with the elderly person, who benefits from the company of someone who shows an interest in them. Volunteers find the activity satisfying and personally rewarding.
The latest CVS Chat Newsletter is now available.
